Professor Chandrakala Padia is a distinguished political scientist and academic administrator. She served as the first woman Chairperson of the prestigious Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) in Shimla in 2014 - a landmark appointment in the history of the institute.

She also served as the first Woman Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Ganga Singh University, Bikaner, Rajasthan and was previously a Professor and Head, Department of Political Science; and Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences at Banaras Hindu University.
